'Profane language used in the film will damage young minds'

Actor and social worker Nasim Khan Sajjad Hussain on Monday filed a suit before the city civil court asking for an injunction to stop the screening of the film Omkara. The case will come up for hearing on Tuesday.

“In my 18 years of acting, I have not heard such profane language. The profanity in the film will cause grave harm and injury to society and damage young minds beyond repair. Youngsters love to imitate film heroes,” said Nasim. “It is therefore in the interest of justice that the film be banned.”Nasim has served the suit notice to the film’s producers Devgan films, director Vishal Bhardwaj, distributor Kumar Mangat and the censor board. “Omkara is a film which is harmful to society at large and the censor certificate must be cancelled,” Nasim says in the suit.

The suit further asks the court to prosecute all those associated with the making and exhibiting of the film. He also questions the desirability of granting the film a “tax free” certificate by the government. Nasim says that on August 17, when he saw the film, he was surprised to note that at least 45 minutes of the two-hour film was full of “filthy” language. According to Nasim, the film degrades the word “Omkara”, which is backed by the “sanctity of religion, respected by all, and defines the highest of all creation”.

Nasim said: “I was shocked and surprised to hear the most vulgar abuse in a strikingly loud voice, as soon as the National Anthem had ended.”
