BHOPAL: After a day's respite, heavy rains lashed several parts of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, throwing life out of gear and claiming four lives in Ratlam and Rajgagh. .

A three-storey building collapsed in Rangrej road area of Ratlam early this morning following incessant downpour, killing one Yashwant Gandhi (37), his wife Neeta (32) and three-year old son Harsh, police said adding that Gandhi's elder son Vivek (7) was critically injured and admitted to a hospital.

Senior officials and fire brigade personnel have reached the site even as routine life was paralysed due to heavy rains in several parts of the city since Thursday, they said.

The body of an unidentified man, apparently swept away by strong currents in Newaz river, was recovered from its banks at Rajgarh, official sources said. 

The road link between Indore and Gwalior was also snapped as a bridge over the swollen Doodhi river on Agra-Mumbai highway was submerged.

Heavy downpour also pounded the state capital, inundating low-lying colonies and disrupting traffic movement in many areas, they said.
