2 women killed in Bangla attack

SILCHAR: The situation on the Indo-Bangla border on Thursday turned serious with the death of two women at Harinagar village in Assam's Cachar district in a mortar attack by the Bangaldesh Rifles.
    
According to Border Security Force sources, Sabita Dey (30) and Santa Dey (20) died when their house was hit by mortar fired by BDR men at Harinagar part four village early on Thursday.
 
Heavy firing continued throughout the night between BDR and BSF personnel as tension prevailed in the Cachar-Karimganj district sector.
 
Firing stopped at 7 am as nearly 3000 villagers of Harinagar, Kinarkhal and Tukirgram fled to safer areas.
    
The Cachar and Karimganj district administration kept the Siddheswar high school ready to house fleeing villagers.
 
Trouble started after a group of BDR men attacked two border outposts of the BSF at Harinagar-Kinnarkal in Cachar district and Tukergram in Karimganj district along the international border on Wednesday night.
 
The BDR men opened fire, forcing the BSF personnel to retaliate at around 10 pm.
 
This is the second such firing incident between the border forces since June 28 last when there were skirmishes along the border concerning the alleged occupation of about 220 acres of Indian land by Bangladeshi culvitators.
