Computer 'peripherals' stolen from Army HQ

NEW DELHI: Some computer peripherals were reported stolen earlier this week from Kashmir House here, an integral part of the Army Headquarters establishment, police confirmed on Saturday.

Investigation Officer Brij Mohan Singh said that 13 'computer' catridges were reported stolen last Tuesday from the Kashmir House stores by the storekeeper.

These catridges, valued at betwen Rs 1200 to 1500 each were kept in a drawer in the store within the Kashmir House premises, a tightly guarded defence  establishment.

IO Singh said police had lifted some fingerprints and after initial investigations, it apperaed to be ''an inside job''   Defence ministry spokesperson Sitanshu Kar also confirming the incident, said these computer peripherals were recent purchases and awaiting final installations.

Further, he strongly denied a TV news channel report to the effect that ''two hard discs and vital documents were stolen from the defence headquarters.''

He said that he was issuing a formal denial to the news channel report.  Admitting that the incident was ''a serious breach of Kashmir House security'', spokesperson Kar said ''initial investigation led us to suspect that this is an inside job.''    An internal inquiry has been ordered and steps were being taken to guard against recurrence of such incidents.
