K Raghu/ Sumanta Ray ChaudhuriBangalore/Kolkata: In the police station, Gururaj Kishore was unrepentant to the crime he committed. The 27-year old call centre employee was arrested for the murder of his colleague Tanya Banerjee.
Kishore confessed to stabbing the 31-year old Tanya, when she backtracked on her commitment to marry him. The duo was seeing each other for over two years, but Tanya backed off after she found him to be brash.
“We had detained him on suspicion and during our questioning, he admitted to the crime,” Bangalore Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Bipin Gopalakrishna said.
The body of Tanya was found with nearly 25 stab injuries on the highway near Sakleshpur, about 287 km from Bangalore on Wednesday. After killing Tanya, Kishore sent text messages to her friends at the guest house, saying she was rushing to Kolkata.
Tanya, a trainee at 24/7 Customer, deployed to answer calls from customers of British insurance player Aviva had left her office around 9-30 pm on Tuesday night. Kishore, who stays with his mother and grandmother, had joined Aviva 24/7 Customer around June, along with Tanya.
This was the second such incident involving a call centre employee since a 24-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by the driver of a car leased by her employers in Bangalore in December 2005.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that Tanya had been arrested by Kolkata Police last year, on charges of prostitution.
Tanya was put in jail custody for a month and later released on bail.
Gyanwant Singh, Deputy Commissioner Detective Department1, told DNA that Tanya, along with one more girl and two men, were arrested by the officers of the DD’s Immoral Traffic section from a guesthouse at Tarak Dutta Road under Karaya Police station in Kolkata on August 31, 2005.
“Jason Anthony, the main accused behind the sleaze racket, was one of the two men arrested in this connection,” Singh added. Tanya, who was then working in Bangalore, came on a holiday to Kolkata for a few days.
The police filed a case against Jason and Tania under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Investigations revealed that that Jason ran the sex racket for a long time. He allegedly had links with some lady call center employees both in Bangalore and Kolkata and he used to fix up clients for them
