VADODARA: Debutant director Naseeruddin Shah has been accused of foul play in his film Yun Hota to Kya Hota. The allegations have come from the playwright Uttam Gada who claimed Naseer made massive changes in the script which made it “cheap”.

The infuriated playwright shot a letter to Naseer asking him to remove his name from the credits of the film. However, as the director retained Gada’s name, the playwright posted his original script on his website www.uttamgada.com and urged cine goers to compare the two.

Gada complained that the actor-turned-director has altered the original work beyond recognition. “He has made 80 per cent changes in my original script. My original script under the name of ‘Udaan’ does not carry ‘toilet talk’ as shown in the film,” an irked Gada told DNA over the phone from Mumbai.

Gada said when he put his complaints to the director, they were ignored.  “When I asked Naseer about why he has made so many changes and expressed doubts if the film would succeed at the box office, he ignored my questions, saying ‘Your work as a script writer is over with the submission of the script, now the director’s work begins.”’

Gada said he knew how to handle the script as he had worked on more than 200 play scripts. The 58-year-old writer has also referred to his experience in his letter to Naseer. Gada writes, “If you have achieved a position in the field by acting for 30 years, I have also made my name by writing 21 successful plays.”
