Embattled Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi on Saturday charged that the entire Muslim community in the country was being labelled as ‘terrorist’ after the Tuesday’s blasts and warned that 20 lakh Muslims in the city would take to streets if this continued.

Azmi claimed that he had been under surveillance after the 7/11 serial train bomb blasts, and the Muslims were being made to look like terrorists.

Demanding that the July 17 visit of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to Mumbai be banned, Azmi stated that Samajwadi cadres would not only protest, but also gherao Modi.

He said that there were some elements hell bent on instigating riots in Mumbai and Maharashtra. “Their aim is to target the SP, and me in particular, for whatever has happened recently,” added Azmi.

Condemning the train blasts, Azmi complained that the police were picking up minority community youths at odd hours.

Replying to queries about the controversy over his alleged role in the recent Bhiwandi riots, Azmi said it was a BJP ploy to tarnish his name.

He called for a judicial probe into the 7/11 train blasts as well as the Bhiwandi riots.
