Controversial pop singer Mika Singh gets put on the hot seat by DNA reader/student Arpana Chitrangna.

In hindsight, do you think you could have avoided the kiss controversy with Rakhi Sawant?
It wasn’t something which I did deliberately. Such things just happen. You never plan it. I wish it could have been avoided. But I am not to be blamed; that’s all I know.

Is it true that thanks to the hype over the controversy, your latest album ‘Something Something’ is selling like hot cakes?
The album is selling because it deserves to be on the chartbuster list. It’s certainly not because of the controversy. Yes, the hype worked for me, but in a limited way. All my albums do pretty well. There have been no such controversies before. Why did the albums sell then?

The general perception is that it was planned…
What rubbish! I don’t need to plan controversies. I am a musician and I focus on being one. People are saying that I have been getting free publicity because of the incident, but the fact is that it is Rakhi who needs publicity. I don’t do such stunts.

I have been a trendsetter all my life. This locket that I am wearing for years (points to his gold chains) has been worn by Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Veer-Zaara’. I sang ‘Sawan mein lag gayee aag’ with a nasal tone many years ago and today it is Himeshbhai (Reshammiya) who’s setting new trends with his nasal voice.

Are you in touch with Rakhi?
I hardly know her. Frankly, I don’t care (laughs).

Any message that you want to convey to her?
I think she should stop cribbing, stop running after publicity and should focus on her work. That’s the only way to go up.
