Leaders across the globe have expressed outrage over the Mumbai bomb blasts and urged urgent coordinated action against the scourge of terrorism.

United States of America

Condemning the blasts as “monstrous” and “despicable”, US President Bush said such acts increase the urgency of coordinated action by all countries to defeat terrorism in all its manisfestations.

United Kingdom

Prime Minister Tony Blair offered Britons’ sympathy to India. He said during his weekly House of Commons question session that he condemned “utterly the brutal and shameful attacks on Tuesday.”

Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the terrorists responsible for the attacks must be severely punished. He has asserted that this unscrupulous and dastardly crime can never be justified.

Pakistan

Pakistan strongly condemned the series of bomb blasts describing the attacks as a despicable act of terrorism. President Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz offered condolences over the loss of life.

Australia called the bombings “an attack on the democratic way of life,” and warned that it could happen anywhere. It is “happy to provide any assistance through police or other forms of intelligence.”
