Good results in board exams are no longer just a matter of students’ hard work or favourable luck. Efforts put in by schools, too, make a world of a difference, and it’s no wonder that students and parents can’t stop thanking the teachers.

One school that has cornered glory is the Balmohan Vidya Mandir in Dadar. Five of its students figured on  the city merit list of 16 students to have scored above 90 per cent. The school believes in keeping the students rooted to their culture and traditions. Also, practical education is of primary importance here.

Girish G Lad is a proud man today. His son Sai Prasad Lad not only topped Balmohan with 93.86 per cent, but is also the 10th rank-holder on the merit list. Lad Sr said, “If a teacher wants the students to know what an elephant is, an elephant is brought inside the school. Also, the students are free to approach the teachers with any problems they have. The teachers are always there for you. They love you more than your parents.”

“A lot of people advised me to not send my child to Balmohan because it is a Marathi medium school. But as I myself had been a student there, I knew that it was the best place for my son,” Lad added.

Another school that has made significant dent in the merit list is the Parle Tilak Vidyalaya in Vile Parle. The school has 100 per cent results for the 15th consecutive year and five of its students are rank-holders on the merit list.

It has structured a system which helps identify and train intelligent students for almost three years before they take the board exams. “In class VIII itself, we select some students who we think are capable of excelling in the SSC examinations and start coaching them either before or after school hours.

Also, these students are made to take five additional exams in class X. Some of these papers are even sent for external evaluation,” said headmistress Sharda G Limaye.

Aditya Mehta was the school topper with 94 per cent. He stood ninth on the city merit list.
