KHOST: A seven-foot spy plane believed to belong to the US-led coalition crashed into a village in southeastern Afghanistan but caused no casualties, police said on Saturday.

The unmanned aircraft plunged to earth Friday in eastern Khost province on the border with Pakistan, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Haroon said.

US-led coalition forces retrieved it on Saturday, he said. The coalition could not immediately confirm the accident.

Haroon said the small unmanned plane came down in Ismail Khail district.

"But we don't know for what purpose it was being used," he said.

"The plane ploughed into the outer wall of a house yesterday. Villagers were scared to go close to it. Today Americans came and took it with them," said Gul Wali Shah from Aliwot village.

Several drones for the US and NATO-led forces in Afghanistan have crashed in past years in various parts of the country. The planes are used for military surveillance.
