KOLKATA: An enterprising Bengali youth is making some money offering live commentary in the local language. Sirajul Mondal, an unemployed football lover does live Bengali commentary against a nominal payment from the non-English-speaking spectators around him.

His areas of operation are the local clubs, where the matches are shown on television with the sound kept on “mute”. He charges Re1 for every five minutes of play from each spectator present. Discounts are offered if the crowd is above 10.

Before the start of a match, Sirajul memorises the names of the 22 players on the basis of their jersey numbers and identifies each player by the jersey number during the match.
