Telgi falls unconscious in jail, admitted to hospital

PUNE: The prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp case Abdul Karim Telgi was on Monday admitted to the Sasoon General Hospital here after he fell unconscious in jail.
   
Telgi, suffering from HIV/AIDS, was examined by jail doctors and later moved to Sasoon hospital, where he has been kept under observation for 24 hours, doctors attending on him said.
 
He was admitted following complaints of uneasiness, fever and vomiting, doctors said.
 
Jail doctors visited the hospital to monitor his condition, hospital sources said.
 
Telgi is lodged in the high-security egg-shaped cell at Yerwada and is facing trial for circulating fake stamp papers in Pune.
    
The Bund garden police in Pune had seized fake stamp papers worth Rs 2.98 lakh and bared Telgi's syndicate in 2002.
 
The trial is yet to begin although police has filed a chargesheet against Telgi and 67 other accused, including his wife Shahida, politicians and policemen.
 
Among the arrested, five policemen, including former police commissioner RS Sharma and former ACP Sridhar Wagal, have been granted bail.
 
The chargesheet in this case was filed on July 26 last year.
 
The prosecution has cited more than 200 witnesses in the case.
