LUCKNOW: Film star Jaya Bachchan has changed her name to Bachchan Jaya Amitabh.

Jaya, who filed nomination for the Rajya Sabha bypolls on Thursday, made changes in her name in the affidavit presented before the returning officer (RO).

The changes were made by pen and duly attested by her advocate and notary. While the name printed in the affidavit was Jaya Amitabh Bachchan, the name was changed with ink.

The name of the superstar and spouse Amitabh Bachchan has also been spelled as Bachchan Amitabh.

Her affidatvit will come under scrutiny by the RO on June 6.

Interestingly, in the affidavit presented during the 2004 biennial RS polls, she had mentioned her name as Jaya Bachchan, as she is popularly known. Her spouse was also mentioned as Amitabh Bachchan.

The changes by ink were made at three places in the affidavit. She, however, signed the affidavit as 'Jaya Bachchan.'

Jaya had to resign her RS seat following directives of the Election Commission, since she was chairperson of the UP Film Development Council (UPFDC) -- an office of profit.

Her resignation had led to political furore with SP and BJP mounting pressure on Congress in Lok Sabha.  Following the controversy, AICC president Sonia Gandhi resigned her Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat and as chairperson of the National Advisory Council (NAC). She later got re-elected from Rae Bareli.

While Jaya had on May 25 resigned from the UPFDC post, SP general secretary and chairman of UP Development Council Amar Singh said she would not reclaim the post.
