32 feared killed in Rajapur road mishap

A truck carrying a wedding party crashed into a gorge in a remote area of Maharashtra on Saturday, killing at least 30 people, police said.

RATNAGIRI (Maharashtra): At least 32 people were killed and 50 were injured when the truck in which they were travelling turned turtle near Kajirda village in Rajapur taluka of this district on Saturday.
 
Rajapur police sources said the truck was carrying a marriage party.
 
The truck was headed for Kajirda village after having commenced its journey from Tamhane village in the taluka.
 
The injured have been admitted to the Raipatan rural hospital, police said, adding that top officials have gone to the accident site.
 
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh announced Rs 1 lakh aid to the next-of-kin of those killed in the accident.
 
Deshmukh expressed grief and announced financial assistance of Rs 15,000 to those injured.
  
On learning about the accident, he got in touch with the district administration and directed that help be extended to the injured.
