TORONTO: The second annual South Asian Business Festival will be held at the Toronto's International Centre, Canada's premier trade and convention hotspot, on May 20 and 21.

The 2006 business fest, among the many events lined up for Toronto this summer, is organised by Canadian Multicultural Radio (CMR) and Tamil Vision Inc. (TVI) and promises to bring in a crowd of over one million people, who will enjoy a buffet of South Asian activities ranging from dance shows, music concerts, youth programs to a film festival, fashion show and more.

More than 400 display booths will showcase products and services offered by South Asian businesses across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Leading and emerging businesses have the opportunity to display their products and services at the event. Those in the business of fashion, bridal wear, electronics, real estate, furniture and food are lining up to participate at the show.

The event also promises to be bigger and better than last year, where almost 50,000 people came together to get a closer look at the diversity that South Asian culture has to offer. To help facilitate these record numbers, this year exhibition spaces within the Toronto International Centre have been expanded for exhibitors and festival attendees.

This business festival is different from similar events in a way that it extends to include the cultural mosaic of the South Asian community. From a cross-cultural music festival which would go beyond boundaries and enable local musicians to share and celebrate their cultural sounds and music with others — to a multicultural dance festival, that aims at being a celebration of unique cultural dances with a bit of a dabble in fusion and other dance forms — to a South Asian Film Festival, which showcases award-winning South Asian short films, there's something in store for all.

In keeping with the concept of togetherness, the fashion show is being called "Unity 2006" and will feature formal, casual and bridal wear in an array of vivid colours and design. Creative children and teen activity have been included to the menu to make the festival more youth-friendly.

The highlight of the fest is the second Canadian music talent search being hosted by the Canadian Multicultural Radio (CMR). Here, local musicians will compete for a chance at making a 10-track professional CD music album in CMR's state-of-the-art studios.
