Naik in hospital, Khot still at large

Former transportation minister Surupsingh Naik, arrested after the Supreme Court sentenced him to one month jail in a contempt case, has been shifted to JJ Hospital after he complained of chest pain at Thane jail on Monday morning.

MUMBAI: Former transportation minister Surupsingh Naik, arrested after the Supreme Court sentenced him to one month jail in a contempt case, has been shifted to JJ Hospital after he complained of chest pain at Thane jail on Monday morning. Another accused in the case, suspended additional chief secretary Ashok Khot did not surrender till late Monday evening. Thane jail sources told DNA that Naik complained of chest pain and requested jail authorities of medication, following which he was shifted to J.J Hospital.
 
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Police have issued an ultimatum to Khot and already sent two teams to locate and arrest him in Delhi, where he is reportedly hiding for the last three days. He could also be declared offender and absconder. AN Roy, Mumbai Police Commissioner told DNA, “Legal process has been initiated to proclaim him an offender and absconder. He has been touch with us and claiming that he is going to surrender but he hasn’t done so till now. We have sent two teams to Delhi in search of him.”
 
Earlier, Director General of Police, Maharashtra, PS Pasricha confirmed that Khot had been in his constant touch with them and had been claiming that he would surrender anytime. However, since Khot hasn’t done it so far, Pasricha said, the police had issued him ultimatum and asked him to surrender by Monday night failing which police would have no option but to arrest him.
