6 killed as crackers explode in house

Six persons, including a woman and a child, were killed when crackers exploded in a house at Arsikere in Karnataka's Hassan district on Monday.

BANGALORE: Six persons, including a woman and a child, were killed when crackers exploded in a house at Arsikere in Karnataka's Hassan district on Monday, police said.

The explosion blew apart the house, killing three on the spot and an equal number in the neighbouring house in their sleep when it collapsed under the impact of the blast, Arsikere police said over the telephone.

The victims of the explosion were related to a dealer of crackers and had stored them to be taken for a function in Mysore, they said.

As power supply was cut, a family member lit a candle in the early hours and it accidentally fell on the crackers, leading to the tragedy, police said.
