BOSTON (Massachusetts): Unbeaten Ricky Hatton of England dethroned World Boxing Association welterweight champion Luis Collazo here on Saturday, lifting the title with a 12-round unanimous decision in his welterweight debut.

Hatton, who gave up the WBA light welterweight title to challenge for Collazo's crown, improved to 41-0, with 30 wins inside the distance, while Collazo fell to 26-2.

Hatton sent southpaw Collazo to the canvas in the first round, but the fight evolved into a hard-fought battle until the end.

The judges scored it 115-112, 115-112 and 114-113 for the Englishman.

On the undercard, Brazilian Valdemir Pereira surrendered his International Boxing Federation featherweight title when he was disqualified in the eighth round for repeated low blows.

Making his first title defense, Pereira fell to 23-1 as he was thoroughly frustrated by unknown Eric Aiken, who took the fight on 10 days notice when Englishman Esham Pickering pulled out.

Aiken, who improved to 16-4, scored knockdowns in the fourth and fifth rounds before Pereira was penalized points for low blows in the sixth and seventh.

Another in the eighth prompted Charlie Dwyer to stop it at the 1:37 mark.
