Funeral tea turns deadly in China

BEIJING: A funeral in northwest China took an especially tragic turn when milky tea served to mourners ended up killing three and sending 16 others to hospital, state media reported on Sunday. 

The accident happened on Saturday in Tekes county, part of the largely Muslim Xinjiang region, Xinhua news agency reported.

Shortly after tea had been served, 19 women aged between 27 and 79 started feeling dizzy and nauseous and had difficulty breathing, according to the agency.

Three died at the local hospital and the others are still undergoing treatment there, while an investigation has been launched to find the cause of the poisoning.
