MUMBAI: The Anil Ambani-controlled Reliance Communications Ventures plans to expand its broadband network to 200 cities across India from present 40 in this fiscal.

The company would increase focus on consumer Internet business in the coming years as it was mainly focussed on business broadband services.

Talking to DNA Money, Prakash Bajpai, president-broadband business, Reliance Communications Ventures Ltd, said: “India broadband market is at nascent stage and lot of growth still required to increase the penetration of broadband connection.”

When asked about IPTV, Bajpai said company had already built the required infrastructure for internet protocol television (IPTV) and would initiate talks with companies for content.

Experts say that a rapid increase in the number of broadband connections is considered vital for IPTV’s success.

The government has set a target of building a base of 20 million broadband users by 2010.

Meanwhile, Finland-based F-Secure Corporation and Reliance Communications have signed a partnership deal to provide data security services for Reliance Communications customers which will offer safe Internet uses for fast growing broadband customer base.

F-Secure will provide its F-Secure(r) Service Platform for Consumers - a solution that allows ISPs to offer their residential and small office customers a security solution that protects their computers.

On the partnership, Bajpai said, “Partnership with F Secure’s will ultimately help our users and surf Internet without any kind of threats and external attacks. Moreover, there is a need for a fail-proof security solution that guarantees the customer peace of mind.”

F-Secure(r) Service Platform for consumers is available in two packages - Reliance PC Protect Basic and Family Packs. These packages include a combination of anti-virus, antispyware, firewall, parental control and spam control.
