Vedathri Maharishi passes away

COIMBATORE: Spiritual guru Vedathri Maharishi, head of the Temple of Consciousness at Aliyar, near here, died on Tuesday after a brief illness.
    
The 96-year-old Maharishi died following a heart attack around noon, a senior doctor at the private K G Hospital here, where he was admitted, said.
 
The body is being taken to the Ashram at Aliyar where it will be kept for three days to enable devotees to pay homage, the doctor said.
 
According to the doctor, the nonagenarian Maharishi was admitted to the hospital some 10 days ago, following complaints of constipation.
    
He was operated upon for a blockade in the large intestine.
 
Though there was improvement, he developed a kidney problem after three days and was on dialysis for a day and under observation, the doctor said.
 
The Maharishi was quite cheerful on Tuesday and was smiling and talking to everybody, till he suffered a heart attack, the doctor added.
