Twenty new cases of gastro-enteritis were reported in Mumbai on Sunday.

“Twenty new cases have been admitted in four government-run hospitals today (Sunday), while 16 patients have been discharged,” said Pravin Shingare, Dean of JJ Hospital.

More than 173 patients had been admitted with gastro symptoms in various city hospitals in the past week, mainly from Crawford Market area.

All of them complained of diarrhoea and vomiting, common gastro symptoms.

Meanwhile, the BMC on Sunday said that it had received notification from the Bombay Hospital for two cases of Cholera reported two days ago in the private hospital.

BMC Executive Health Officer Jayraj Thanekar said, “Our studies have indicated that there is a mild strain of cholera in the two cases. However, subsequent culture tests have been negative. Therefore, there is no corroborative evidence of cholera outbreak.”

Thanekar informed that the BMC conducted a survey of the areas—Tardeo and Colaba—after receiving the notification on Sunday. “No one else from the two areas has been affected,” he said.

Ashish Tiwari, the Bombay hospital PRO said, “The two patients (one from Tardeo and the other from Colaba) are in a stable condition and are recovering. We informed the BMC about the two cholera cases in the hospital on Friday itself. Notification of such diseases is a protocol that we strictly follow.”
