NEW DELHI: The Hindu will have India's first Readers' Editor.
''It will be on the lines of the British newspaper The Guardian,” Hindu's editor-in-chief N Ram announced on Tuesday after lectures by Guardian Editor Alan Rusbridger and Readers' Editor Ian Mayes, organised by The Hindu.
The Readers' Editor will be an independent person within the newspaper to which the readers can complain.
Ram said the name of the Readers' Editor will be announced in Chennai on January 13.
He acknowledged that The Times of India had some years ago started the concept of external ombudsman, but was unable to sustain it.
