Throwing a party, and need a celebrity to make it happening? Such dreams are now within reach, though you may have no personal connection with glitz and glamour.
Many event management companies are working overtime to make your fantasy party a reality.

While the guests get to shake hands and pose for pictures with the celebrity, the latter walks away with a tidy sum in appearance money. As the trend of ‘hiring’ celebrities for private parties catches on, Bollywood and television actors  are making hay.

Event management companies can even get you the required crowd for a party. At such events, few guests know each other. “Often you have a roomful of people who have no connection with each other. The host is only interested in getting the party written about,” said a well known TV actor who has starred in many stage managed parties.

“I am attached to an event management group and they pay me between Rs 50,000 to a lakh as appearance money,” said the actor.

Viveck Shettyy, director, Indus Communications, said his company has organised at least 30 to 40 such events. “It is a win-win situation for everyone. Expectations are met for a harmonious business relationship,”

The professional party organisers exist in two categories — individual organisers and the professional companies. While there is no confirmed estimate on the number of individual party organisers, unconfirmed estimates peg the number of event management companies in Mumbai alone at 150.

Women celebrities like Mallika Sherawat, Malaika Arora Khan, Yana Gupta, Rakhi Sawant and Isha Koppikar are more sought after than their male counterparts like John Abraham and Akshay Kumar. Traditional families are keen on the presence of TV stars.

The hosts cannot set the date for such parties. Setting the party date depends on the availability of the celebrities. Many want Page 3 celebrities to attend their dos. It costs an estimated Rs5 lakh for the attendance of 15 to 20 Page 3 celebrities and the media, excluding the cost of food, liquor and the venue.

The clients are, however, instructed that photographs of such events can only be used for editorial purposes and not for advertising.
