Henceforth, travelling in a car will be more safer as city-based Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) will be setting up a modern vehicle crash testing facility to carry out various types of crashes for enhancing the safety level of  automobiles.

ARAI, which provides expertise in research and development, testing, certification and framing of vehicle regulations will be setting up the modern vehicle crash testing facility at Chakan within a year which is developing as the automobile hub.

The facility will include tests like full frontal crash, offset crash, rear impact, pole impact, dynamic rollover, sled facility, child restrain test and pedestrian impact test facility.

Abhay Mannikar, head of the department of the passive safety laboratory of the ARAI told DNA, “At present, ARAI is the only institute which has the vehicle crash testing facility in the country. Now, we are upgrading our facility.’’

CV Ghaisas, assistant director of the passive safety laboratory said, “At present, we carry out only frontal crash or offset crash tests. However, with the modern facilities at the new centre, we will be able to carry out tests like pole impact and dynamic rollover. We will introduce child restrain test for the safety of children travelling in the vehicle.’’

Ghaisas said, “The new regulations regarding the safety norms of passenger vehicles are stringent and before they come into force, we need to provide the facility for automobile manufactures to help them meet these new norms. Once, this facility comes up, it will be more safer to travel in the vehicles.’’
