Special teams to check female foeticide in Pimpri Chinchwad

The medical department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has formed special teams to inspect sonography centres and has appealed to citizens to register complaints, if they notice any violation of Pre-conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act in their jurisdiction.

Citizens can call toll-free number 18002334475 or log on to www.amchimulgi.gov.in to register their complaints.

Each of these teams includes one person from the medical health department, a police department personnel and a representative of the state government.

The eight groups will independently check sonography centres in Akurdi, Yamunanagar, Bhosari, Sant Tukaramnagar, Sangvi, Pimpri, Chinchwad and Thergaon till June 30.

After the Beed illegal abortion racket came to light, the state government had issued a notification to municipal corporations to conduct inspections in their jurisdictions to check for violations of PCPNDT Act. There are 103 sonography centres in PCMC. Last year, civic health officials conducted a special drive against sonography centres.
