Now, Ganesh mandals can battle it out in virtual world

The Ganesh mandals of the city now can find space in the virtual world of the internet. Thanks to the initiative by the Seva Mitra Mandal of Shukrawar Peth and Adarsha Mitra Mandal of Dhankavdi, who have joined hands to launch a website www.universalganesha.com. Through this website, the mandals of the city can participate in the e-Ganeshotsav competition during the 10 days of fest.

It would be for the first time that e-competition for Ganesh mandals would be held in Pune. The Vighnaharta Nyas, Srimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati Mandal and others organise competitions in various categories for Ganesh mandals. Despite the fact that there are over 3500 Ganesh mandals in Pune, very few take part in these competitions. The website will be launched to increase the participation.

Shirish Mohite, the senior member of the Seva Mitra Mandal told DNA, “The website would provide Ganesh mandals five pages each to give the details about the history of the mandal, its initiatives and contribution in the past along with the detailed  information about the mandal office-bearers amidst other things.”

Uday Jagtap, the senior member of Adarsha Mitra Mandal  and Mohite said that the Ganesh mandals can download 50 photographs on the website and even put four video clips of the mandal decoration or any other event.

Mohite said, “The Ganesh mandal office-bearers are conversant with internet including Facebook, Twitter and other social networking media.” He added that there will be attractive trophies for the winners of the e-Ganeshotsav competition. “The competition is only for Ganesh mandals in Pune this time and it will be extended in due course of time,” he added.
