KP chillar party: ‘clueless’ cops duck questions

The reports of sleuths from social security branch busting a ‘chillar party’ in River View hotel at Koregaon Park on Saturday, where about 800 underaged children were being served alcohol, sent the entire ranks and files of the Pune police in a tizzy on Tuesday.

The party was allegedly thrown by Jayant Pawar, a close relative of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.

Attempts to extract answers from officers of all ranks of the police department, including Mundhwa police station, as well as the crime branch proved futile as they skirted questions on the incident. For several hours, police commissioner Gulabrao Pol did not respond to phone calls. His subordinates kept on saying he was in an important meeting. Later in the night, he responded only to say, “Hello! I can’t hear you.”

Joint commissoner of police (law and order) Sanjeev Kumar Singhal refused to comment by saying, “I do not have any idea. This action was taken by senior police inspector Bhanupratap Barge. You better talk to him. I can not comment on this.”

Barge too said, “The investigations are no more with me. Mundhwa police station is dealing with the case. As far as I know, there is no link of Jayant Pawar. Had there been such a link, a formal case would have been filed.”

Inspector Vishwanath Ghanvat of Mundhwa police station did not receive the call. Deputy commissioner of police (zone IV) Sanjay Jadhav also avoided giving reply to questions.

Ajit Pawar too did not reply to an SMS asking him whether Jayant Pawar was his cousin. Jayant Pawar too was not available for comment.
