9 hurt in wolf attack in Nashik

Panic and chaos spread across three villages in Malegaon taluka, on Tuesday when a wolf appeared from nowhere and injured nine people including three people.

Enraged, the villagers trapped the wolf and stoned it to death. The wolf first appeared in Mandake village and then traveled a very short distance when it reached Chikhal Ohal, and then Devarpade villages which are adjacent localities.

The injured persons were admitted to district civil hospital in Nashik.

“We were informed of the wolf attack only later; by the time we reached the village, people had killed the wolf and burnt its body. We are not sure if the wolf had rabies or not. We have filed a case according to the forest act and are investigating the matter”, said forest ranger Subhash Nagare.

According to forest officials, wild animals are likely to enter areas where they smell prey.
