Youth possessing ivory stick caught

Pune: Finally after seven months, the Khadak police have lodged complaint against two youth who were found smuggling a foldable walking stick made of elephant ivory. 
In October last year, the Khadak police had detained two persons for possessing walking stick allegedly made of ivory. The police had then sent the stick to the zoological department to verify whether it was made of ivory. But no experts in the department could verify this and hence, the stick had been sent to Kolkata-based Central Forensic Science Laboratory. The elephant tooth ivory was transformed into a beautiful folding stick with imprints of flowers and camel with red, blue, black and marron colours carved on it to conceal its identity. 
After the report from laboratory, the case has been registered by a forest circle officer Sagar Hole and accordingly two youths Suresh Sharma (30) and Kantilal Chheda (22), residents of Shukarwar Peth, have been arrested under the Wildlife protection Act, 1972. Inspector (Crime) Sandipan Sawant of Khadak police station said, “Ivory-turned carved stick cost up to Rs1 lakh. The duo were in search of appropriate person to sell it. Its illegal to sale an ivory and its consist similar offence if you keep the ivory illegally with you.”
