Burglars struck at six homes in broad daylight when the residents were away at work on Saturday. Citizens lost cash and valuables worth a total of Rs7 lakh. All the incidents took place within a span of nine hours from 9 am to 5.30 pm on Saturday in the residential suburbs of Hinjewadi, Yerawada and Chinchwad.
The incidents came to light after the complainants reached home from work.
The burglars stole gold, silver and other valuable articles worth Rs2.31 lakh. A techie, Swapnil Jaju (27), a resident of Dev Exotica society’s sixth floor apartment in Yerawada lodged a complaint. The burglars also broke into houses owned by Nikhil Sancheti (35) and Ritesh Yalkar (35).
Sub-inspector Manohar Salunke who is investigating the house break-in in Yerawada said, “The house break-in took place in Dev Exotica society. There are two wings and three watchmen were deployed. During interrogating it was revealed that the local residents had given them personal work and most of the houses the complainant had forgot to lock the iron door due to which this incident took place.”
The burglars broke into the house of a senior citizen in Mars Society in Kalyaninagar. The complainant, Abdul Khetasi (65), reached home only to find the broken locks of the door and cupboard. He lodged a complaint with the police that cash and ornaments worth Rs2.25 lakh were stolen.
In Thergaon, Hariram Kumavat’s house at Sai Park society in Thergoan was struck by burglars who stole gold and silver ornaments worth Rs1.31 lakh. The incident took place when Kumavat and his wife were at school to attend a parent-teachers meeting.
The sixth incident took place when the house of Sandip Kachate (33), a resident of Vishal Heights in Chinchwad was burgled and he lost gold and silver ornaments and electronic articles worth Rs1,48,689.
