More than 90 members from girls Islamic group staged demonstrations against the Delhi gang-rape incident.

More than 90 female members of Girls Islamic Organisation (GIO), Pune, on Wednesday, staged demonstrations on MG Road against the Delhi gang-rape incident to express solidarity with the victim.

Fatima Sheikh, district coordinator of GIO, said, “Our support is with the rape victim. We will spread awareness on eve-teasing in the city. Women must be respected.”
“Many people requested us to make the human chain bigger and reach each and every corner of the city. The response from the citizens has been tremendous,” said Sheikh Karimuddin, member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Pune unit.

Nazeen Shah, organiser of the human chain, said, “The world holds millions of things you can play with and a girl is not one of them. Eradication of bad evils from society is our main objective and we will be working towards the agenda.”

GIO will be holding a seminar from January 11 to January 20, 2013 wherein they will be displaying awareness messages in the city colleges and the prominent locations of the city.

“We will hold a seminar to spread awareness on eve-teasing, nudity, female foeticide, drinking, smoking and many other topics. Our main objective is to bring people from darkness to light,” said Noorunn Isa, member-in-charge of GIO.
