A 47-year-old woman, accused in a cheating case, managed to escape from the clutches of Deccan police at the Sassoon General Hospital in Bund Garden area in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Navinga Manu Kadiwale (47) of Swargate was caught by a woman, who was also a victim of her trickery, and handed over to the Deccan police on Tuesday afternoon.

Deccan Gymkhana police station incharge inspector Manohar Joshi said, “Showing some gold ornaments and pearls, Kadiwale had told the victim that she can exchange these jewellery with the mangalsutra and other ornaments that the victim was wearing. She was tricked into handing over her mangalsutra and silver anklet to Kadiwale. When the victim realised that she was hoodwinked, Kadiwale had made good her escape from the spot.”

According to the police, the victim later found Kadiwale doing the same trick with another woman on Shivaji Road. She raised an alarm, caught Kadiwale with the help of onlookers and handed her over to the Deccan police.

Bund Garden Police Station incharge inspector UN Sonawane said, “When the Deccan Gymkhana police were interrogating Kadiwale on late Tuesday evening, she complained of high blood pressure. She was taken to Sassoon hospital and was undergoing treatment at room number 19 on the third floor of the hospital. “

“Kadiwale got up around 5.15 am of Wednesday and told the woman constable on guard that she wanted to answer the nature’s call.” he said. Sonawane further added, “She pushed aside the constable and escaped from the hospital.”

The Bund Garden police have lodged a complaint under section of the IPC.
