Pune: It took nearly an year for cops to file a case in the incident of June 2013, where an old Wada had collapsed claiming the lives of two people including a teenager.
The incident took place on June 19, last year around at Wada situated at Pathaskar wada inKasba Peth. Due to heavy rains, the wada wall had collapse and Vaishanvi Patange (17) and Sudha Patange (75) lost their lives. Initially, the police reported accidental death but after the entire inquiry completed, a criminal complaint was registered on Saturday.
Police sub-inspector V B Jadhav has lodged a complaint with Faraskhana police station against Shirish Amrutlal Chunasama, a resident of Ghole Road under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code comprises of punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and mischief causing damage to property. No arrest has been made yet.
Inspector in-charge of Faraskhana police station R M More said, “During our investigation and while scrutinising the documents, we noticed that the entire wada consist of four storey building. The PMC had issued notice to owner of wada for dangerous structure. He was asked to make precautionary and safety measures especially on third and fourth floor. But, the owner Chudasuma did not make any efforts to evacuate the tenants. Due to which two people lost their life.”
PI More said, “Initially the case of accidental death was registered but an inquiry in this regard was set up and the application was pending for the last five months. While I was scrutinising the application after I took the charge, I inspected the wada, checked the document of PMC and after legal opinion the case was registered.”
