Use Lavasa dam for city, say activists

Pune: Various NGOs in the city have joined hands and demanded the seizure of water available to Lavasa and provide it to Pune. The unprecedented water scarcity situation in the city of Pune has made people urge to the administration to take necessary measures.
The activists have said that as per the agreement between irrigation department and the Lavasa Corporation, the irrigation department can seize the water at Lavasa dam whenever there is a crisis situation in the city of Pune. The activists have pointed out that water cuts have been introduced in Pune along with closing swimming pools and acquiring private wells to face the water scarcity situation. To provide relief in this crisis situation, the activists have said, "the administration should acquire around 0.75 TMC water at Lavasa dam."
Sajag Nagrik Manch, Nagrik Chetana Manch, PMP Pravasi Manch, Grahak Peth have sent a letter to chief engineer of the irrigation department and district collector Saurabh Rao in this regard. President of Sajag Nagrik Manch Viveka Velankar, Mag. Gen. (Retd) SCN Jatar of Nagrik Chetana Manch, Grahak Peth executive president Suryakant Pathak, Jugal Rathi of PMP Pravasi Manch along with social worker Vishwambhar Choudhari and cartoonist-activist Mangesh Tendulkar who have signed this letter.
