Alleging that the Narendra Modi Government at Centre was playing politics by prioritising Metro project for Nagpur, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday said that the party president Sharad Pawar would speak to Union Government in this regard.

He was addressing media persons during a press conference after the Nirdhaar Melawa in Pune city. NCP state unit president Sunil Tatkare, city mayor Chanchala Kodre, city unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chavan, MLA Bapu Pathare, spokesperson Ankush Kakade and other leaders were present on the dais.

Pawar said that state Government had given its nod for metro projects at both the cities of Pune and Nagpur. He said that State Government was of the view that Metro should be brought to growing cities and there should not be any discrimination. He pointed out that since BJP has won more Lok Sabha seats in Vidarbha region, the Narendra Modi Government was preparing to speed up the Metro project in Nagpur city. He said that Nagpur was winter capital of the state and it should also have Metro project but Metro projects for Pune and Nagpur should go simultaneously.

Replying to a question on garbage issue in Pune, he said, `to attract more private investment from big companies, there is a need to talk to MERC to give more rate to power generated from garbage by such projects.' He said that the forest land of 300 acres is needed for dumping the garbage from Pune city and state Government would be sorting out the issue of permanent employment of Uruli villagers in to Pune Municipal Corporation by treating it as a special case.

Pawar while addressing the party workers said that he was for concrete roads in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad so that there would not be pot holes and other problems. Recalling his statement of peeing in the dams, he said, `I am taking precautions while speaking publicly and I don't want to spend one more day in front of Late Yashwantrao Chavan memorial at Karad.' Pawar after repenting of this statement at Indapur had resigned from the Cabinet and has staged a day long fast at Karad.
