The city witnessed unexpected showers on Monday evening. The meteorological department has predicted moderate showers in and around the city in the next 24 hours.

An official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed the sudden downpour to the presence of an offshore trough between south Tamil Nadu and central Maharashtra.

Cyclone Helen that had hit Andhra Pradesh a few days ago has led to accumulation of moisture in the air.

Though the cyclone has moved away, moisture retention has resulted in the formation of clouds that have moved towards these parts, said the weather official.

While chilly winds travelling from the north to the south are commonly seen during this season, easterly winds are currently dominant from the east to the west.

Hence, there has been an increase in minimum temperature as the easterly winds have blocked the northern winds.

The official has attributed this condition for absence of extremely chilly weather this season.
Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 19.2 degree Celsius on Monday while Beed recorded the lowest in the state at 13.6 degree Celsius.
