Pune: Even if it is a summer time, Puneites continued witnessing unpredictable weather as the city was lashed by the unseasonal rain on Friday. The city which has been witnessing rainfall activity from last three to four days, recorded 3.4 mm rain on Friday.
Puneites are likely to face some more rain in coming days as the experts of India Meteorological Department has predicted rain and thundershowers in and around Pune in next couple of days.
The area in and around Pune was lashed by unseasonal rain on Tuesday and since then the city was experiencing cloudy weather for couple of days. On Friday also, Pune had cloud cover since morning and by afternoon it became very dark before finally heavy thundershowers washed out streets of the city.
Most areas of the city including Kothrud, Deccan, Swargate, Hadapsar, Lohegaon, Aundh and Pashan witnessed the thundershowers. Radhika Mulay, one of the residents of Kothrud, said, “ We were not expecting that there will be so much of rain in summer days and that was the reason I along with my children had stepped out of house unprepared. We had to find a shelter till the rain stopped.”
According to IMD officials, “There is a low pressure area across Marathwada till Karnataka due to which parts of Konkan, central Maharashtra, Marathwada and isolated places in Vidarbha are witnessing rainfalls activities from last few days. Due to the rainfall activity, the temperature of Pune has also come down considerably. The temperature which was earlier in the range of 40 degree Celsius, came down to 36 degrees on Friday.”
Predicting the rainfall for next couple of days, IMD experts said, “Pune and surrounding areas are likely to witnessed rains and thundershowers for next couple of days.”
