Pune: Two suicides were reported in the city on Sunday. One deceased has been identified as 27-year-old IT engineer, Alok Pathak, a technical staffer with Oracle India. The other was police constable Mogaji Bhikaji Bhavari (43).
Pathak's friend Ajay Bhute found his body hanging from the ceiling fan at his flat in Karvenagar. Bhute went to check on Pathak after the latter didn't response to many calls since April 20.
"The reason for suicide is not known so far," a police officer from the Warje police station said. "I was shocked when I learnt about it. Pathak never showed any signs of depression," a colleague Ajit Raskar said.
In the other case, police constable Bhavari, committed suicide at Indrayaninagar, Bhosari. Though he didn't leave a suicide note, colleagues believe that his prolonged battle with cancer and deteriorating health may have prompted this move. Two hospitals in Mumbai and Pune had given a bleak response about his health.
"He hadn't reported to work for many months, as he was bed-ridden," a police officer said.
Bhavari was working in the Morwadi Pimpri court and was on a sick leave for the last four months. His body was discovered at his residence on April 20.
