Two fishermen rescued from Indrayani

They were washed away after the water level rose due to heavy rains

Two fishermen, who were feared drowned in Indrayani river on Sunday, were rescued by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) disaster management cell, fire officials and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) staff.

After a six-hour-long operation, the two were found clinging on to a tree at 11.45 pm and later pulled down to safety.

They have been identified as Anthony Joseph D’Souza (32) and Rupesh Shyam Navlikar (32). Both are residents of Pune camp area. They were rescued at Golegaon village near Alandi.

According to PCMC fire officials, four fishermen had gone fishing in Indrayani river around 4 pm on Sunday. They were washed away as the water levels rose due to the heavy rains.

Two of the fishermen somehow managed to swim to the shore safely but D’Souza and Navlikar were caught in the current and were flown away. 

PCMC’s fire control department received a call from Alandi after which the fire brigade, disaster management cell and NDRF swung into action.
