Two consecutive days raining in catchment areas, rises the water levels

Pune: With rains continuing for two consecutive day in the catchment areas of all the four dams of Khadakwasla irrigation system the total water available has now gone up to 2.47 TMC. Temghar catchment areas have recorded 44 MM rainfall by 5 pm on Thursday evening.

Irrigation department officials informed that Khadakwasla catchment area received just 2 mm rainfall on Thursday while Panshet received 29 mm of rains. Varasgaon dam catchment areas had 28 mm of rainfall while Temghar received maximum rains among these four dams on Thursday with 44 mm of rainfall till 5 pm on Thursday evening. The total water available in the Khadakwasla irrigation system which has these four dams is 2.47 TMC which is 8.49 per cent of the total capacity of 29 TMCs.

Meanwhile, Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vikas Deshmukh along with a few officials visited Khadakwasla dam on Wednesday evening. The water supply department head V G Kulkarni told media persons that the PMC has issued orders making GPS mandatory for all the private tankers providing water in different parts of the city. Interestingly, Kulkarni said that his department has not received a single complaint from any part of the city about harassment by the tanker owners by increasing tanker prices. Kulkarni said that the rainfall in the catchment areas is likely to increase after next two days as per the forecast available to PMC.

The Khadakwasla system has accumulated almost one TMC water in last eight days since the PMC has introduced the water cuts in Pune. Taking in to account delayed Monsoon, the PMC introduced water cuts and decided to provide water alternate days in the city last week. In last one week, the total water available at Khasakwasla system has increased from 1.50 TMC to 2.47 TMC.
