Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has administered a short treatment to Indian political parties, which was very much needed. Now other traditional parties need to take lessons from AAP, said Sudheendra Kulkarni, columnist and former secretary, prime minister’s office.

He was speaking on ‘Money and politics: Is democracy for sale’ on the second day of the Indian Students’ Parliament popularly known as Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad.

As Yogendra Yadav, a key leader from AAP, was supposed to attend the event, Kulkarni said he was very eager to meet him and wanted to congratulate him for the spectacular victory.

Other dignitaries who attended the event were Dr Jabbar Patel, eminent director of films and drama and C P Surendran, Editor-in-Chief, dna.

“The influence of money and muscle power has damaged democracy in our country. It is a blot on our country. Our Parliament is unique and not only a consultative body, but also a legislative body where all the laws are enacted,” said Kulkarni.

He added that Parliament is a place where meaningful dialogues take place. But there is no discipline and involvement of leaders. This blot should be removed by the youth who aspire for success in serving the nation.

Patel said, “We should consider the work done to build the Constitution, which gives each and everyone their freedom. Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar has given us the best of the constitutions. It is the face of the country and we have to understand this country to understand this democracy. As the youth of this country, it is our responsibility to analyse the situation globally. We can remove all the bad things on the basis of it and the whole country will reach the topmost place in the world by following our holy Constitution.”

At the event, the ‘ideal young MLA’ award was given to Zahoor Ahmad Mir, MLA (JKPDP) from Jammu & Kashmir.

Surendran made the concluding remarks by saying that the Indian Students Parliament is a great hope for the future leaders.

The Indian Students’ Parliament session concludes on Sunday.
