The security agencies are extra cautious and providing additional security cover to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for his Pune visit on Friday against the backdrop of recent serial blasts in Patna before his rally.
The city unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is using the opportunity of Modi’s presence in the city by planning at the last moment to hold a public rally right outside the airport on Friday.
Modi will be arriving in the city on Friday afternoon to visit the new Deenanath Mangeshkar Super Specialty hospital.
As there is no adequate space at the new hospital for the inaugural function, Modi will attend the event that will take place at Abasaheb Garware College ground on Karve Road.
Regarding security arrangements, central agencies have given special inputs to the Pune police asking them to be ‘extra careful’ during Modi’s visit. A team of Gujarat police has also camped in Pune to review the security measures.
BJP city unit chief Anil Shirole said, “We have got permission for the rally only for half an hour and therefore we have decided to welcome Modi outside the airport with a public rally. There is tremendous enthusiasm among party workers regarding Modi’s visit to Pune but since he is coming for a private function, we have decided to hold this rally so that he can address supporters at least for half an hour.”
The rally will be held on an open plot outside Pune airport around 1.30 pm after his arrival at the airport.
When Shirole was asked about the security arrangements against the backdrop of Patna blasts, he said, “We have made separate arrangement for parking which will be far from the rally spot. Our volunteers also will be helping the police to ensure better security arrangements. Police have informed us that Modi will be provided similar security that a prime minister gets. Apart from that there is a team of Gujarat police keeping an eye on security arrangements and they are regularly taking review of the security.”
