Three who stole SBI's Rs1.16 crore held in Goa

The three men who allegedly stole cash Rs1.16 crore meant to be kept in the ATMs of the State Bank of India at Wagholi on July 20, have been arrested in Goa.

The Loni Kand police said the three alleged thieves, Pramod alias Balu Baban Ingale (24), a resident of Uttam Nagar in Warje Malwadi, Sandeep Ashish Kadam and Santosh Somtkar, have been arrested. They added, Indale, who drove the van, was the kingpin of the gang.

Police inspector Narayan Nhyalde of Loni Kand police station told dna, “We traced the thieves to Goa on Sunday and sent two teams. On Monday evening, our policemen caught them. They will be taken to the police station on Tuesday.”

Nhyalde said, “The thieves had gone to various places in Maharashtra and then left the state. They were in Andhra Pradesh for a few days before heading for Goa.”

Nhyalde claimed they recovered Rs1.1 crore cash from the suspects. “The thieves spent Rs6 lakh while travelling. We recovered Rs1.1 crore from their possession.”

Sources from Loni Kand police station said, “After the incident, we gathered information about the suspects and also collected the mobile numbers of their friends and relatives. After a few days, the thieves contacted their relatives using different SIM cards. All these numbers were new. We tracked these numbers and found their location in Goa.”

The case
The officials from the State Bank of India and driver were ferrying Rs1.16 crore on July 20. They were to deposit the money at the ATM centre at Wagholi. The suspects took off with the van, removed the iron box containing the cash, put it in another vehicle and escaped.
