Shripad Tarun Mandal, situated at Shimpi Ali in Camp area, will be celebrating its 101st Ganeshotsav this year. The mandal boasts of a rich heritage as it was initiated by Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
While celebrating the centenary year, the mandal has won many awards for its decorative theme on female foeticide. Mandal president Suresh Khemkar said that Hemant Verma, chairman of this year’s reception committee, was instrumental in creating the appropriate sets for the decoration. The decoration which included small scenes on female foeticide with Yama, the God of Death coming from a height with the help of hydraulic lever had won many hearts and awards.
This year the mandal is presenting a live show on de-addiction to be performed by 15 college student. Besides, they will also show a short film titled ‘Mahilanchi Suraksha Aaplya Haati’ on crime against women.
Atul Gondkar, working president of the mandal is also the Shiv Sena head in Cantonment branch. The Mandal celebrates Navratri festival and organises health camps. It also distributes saplings and organises competition for school students. It will also receive Prataprao Godse memorial award on September 13 instituted by Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Sarvajanik.
