Pune: Here is the reason why even after paying taxes regularly, you don’t get good roads.

In an internal audit conducted by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), it has been found that the contractors had submitted escalated bills. Following this, the civic administration has suspended six consultants for two years. The consultants were supposed to carry out the scrutiny of the bills and the actual work.
However, civic activists and corporators from opposition parties are not happy with the civic body’s decision and they are demanding that along with the consultants, concerned officials should also face action.
The bills submitted by the contractors are scrutinised by PMC officials and consultants appointed by the civic administration. However, after the irregularities were found during the internal audit, Congress corporator Avinash Bagwe, who took up the issue, had demanded an inquiry in this regard. After the findings in the internal audit, civic body was forced to carry out an inquiry.
The inquiry was carried out by additional municipal commissioner (special) Omprakash Bakoria. After initial inquiry, Bakoria had issued notices to concerned PMC officials and consultants. When consultants were found to be guilty, the additional commissioner issued an order of suspension of six consultants for two years.
However, corporators from opposition parties are demanding action against the officials concerned too. Avinash Bagwe said, “Along with the consultants, the officials concerned were also issued notices and explanation was demanded from them. Now, since the consultants have been found guilty and have been suspended, there should be some action against the officials too. If action is not taken against officials, such irregularities in PMC will not stop.”
