Sweet marts and individuals celebrated BJP's victory with saffron-coloured sweets

Pune: With Anil Shirole being chosen as the MP to represent Pune in the Lok Sabha, the city seemed to be in a saffron frenzy on the counting day. From popular sweet marts to small food joints ringed in the celebrations with special orange coloured desserts.
Akilesh Thorat, owner of Sujata Mastani said, "Mango Mastani was a hit in the evening as news of BJP's win spread and people flocked the shops to have something orange to drink,"
Kaka Halwai sweet mart also witnessed a rise in demand for 'kesar pedas' and other orange delicacies. Bhavnagri sweet shop served 'motichoor ladoo' as the sweet of the day. Shreyu Parekh, owner said, "Hamare achchey din aa gaye (prosperous days are to follow), so something sweet on the day of change is auspicious more so if it is saffron ."
Sainath Ganpati Mandal expressed its happiness by giving a free cup of tea to passers-by as a tribute to Narendra Modi, who was once a tea seller. Piyush Shah, a member of the mandal said,"We are delighted with the decision of the citizens and wish to colour the entire country with saffron."
Adhering to what seemed to be a theme for the evening; the mandal also shared its happiness by sponsoring a lavish meal complete with 'aamras' for the patrons of Eklavyanyas Foundation for street kids.
Sharad Patil, owner of a mango juice centre too expressed his jubilation, saying, "Right from 5 in the evening since Modi was declared winner to 9 pm, I served free mango juice to all those who walked in to celebrate the victory."
Apart from the localites, students too received a special treat. Digambar Chakke of Sahkarnagar, owner of a small lunch-box business, distributed special sweet delights in their tiffins. "We generally give a sweet every Friday, but to celebrate the occasion we chose ' aamras' and 'kesar' pedhas because they are orange in colour and hence perfect for the occasion."
