Techie arrested for dowry harassment

He demanded Rs 10 lakh from in-laws; booked along with parents for torturing wife

Pune: In yet another case of crime against woman, a 29-year-old married woman was repeatedly harassed by her techie husband and in-laws for not fulfilling their demand of Rs10 lakh.


The incident came to light, when victim Vinita Parshuramka (29), a resident of Sankruti Apartment in Hadapsar, lodged a complaint with Wanowrie police station against her husband Vikas (32) and his parents under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code comprises of attempt to murder, ill-treatment to victim by her husband and in-laws, assault and an act done by them with common intention.
Inspector in-charge of Wanawadi police station B N Kale said, "The victim's techie husband, and his parents have been arrested. Victim married to Vikas in March 2011 and both were living together peacefully. But soon after the birth of their son, who is now one year old, Vikas wanted to start his own company for which he needed finance. He started demanding money from victim's parents. When they failed to meet his demand, he started torturing his wife. Even her in laws started abusing her. She was denied of food for many days. She was often beaten up by the trio."

According to the cops, the victim had threatened to lodge a complaint against them. When she was sleeping along with her one-year-old son, Anita was gagged and forcefully dragged out of the room. Later, the trio had forcefully made her drink some sedative pills due to which she started feeling drowsy. After failing to reach their daughter on phone, victims parents informed their mutual relatives and rushed to her place only to find their daughter lying in subconscious condition. She was immediately rushed to the hospital.
"On Wednesday, trio were produced before the court of judicial magistrate (First Class) and have been remanded to police custody till Saturday," Kale added.
