Pune: Instead of reprimanding her own daughter when she failed her class IX examination, a 40-year-old mother and the student’s elder sister stormed into a Yerwada school, beat up a lady teacher and abused her for deliberately failing her daughter.
The incident happened at Parulekar High school in Yerawada on Wednesday afternoon. The suspect mother-daughter duo have been identified as Laxmi Rathod and Anita Rathod (19). A complaint in this regard has been registered by Sangita Surwase, the school teacher.
Surwase said, “Taniya Rathod’s younger sister came to pick up her progress report and left. However, after some time, the student’s mother and her elder sister came to the school and started abusing me. Last year too, the girl failed her exams, as she does not pay attention to her studies. There are several complaints from all the teachers against her.”
She added that when she tried showing the family her answer sheets, explaining that she had not written her papers properly. The girl’s sister slapped her, and both mother and daughter started abusing the teacher, not caring that there were small children around. The two also continued using foul language, roughing up even the school authorities.
Assistant police inspector, Shivaji Bendare from the Yerawada police station said that after the incident, there were some people who tried to hush up the matter and advised the teacher not to file a complaint.
“However, I told the school authorities that if they are not filing a case, I will file it instead. Ultimately, the teacher complied on Friday,” he said. The police have arrested the mother and daughter under section 353, 323 and other sections of IPC.
